What do Roland or Korg have that comes even close to Yamaha Montage?
You really wanna compare Zenology to Montage? Are you kidding?
Yamaha always is and was a class of its own, whether you take their synths, pianos, e-pianos, drums, guitars, basses, effects or...
Some people try hard to find something bad about Montage and in their desperation they say it's the look, Montage doesn't look good. Lol
I don't own Montage (yet), but I use my ears when I listen to some YouTube videos and the synth ("speaks") sounds for itself.
It's mind-blowing - the sound and features.
In one video someone says cpu is about 15% average.
Why can't you compare the montage vst to zenology?
They are at the same exact category, and currently zenology offers way more features and editing capabilities than the montage.
If you prefer the Yamaha sound against the Roland sound, that's just your opinion, but it doesn't mean that one is necessarily better than the other.
I for example prefer the acoustic sounds of Yamaha, but the synth engine of Roland, that's just my opinion and my musical preference.
The biggest difference is zenology is designed as a standalone plugin and is a synthesizer in its own right. Montage ESP right now is basically a librarian/Rompler with limited editing.

Time will tell what happens when the Montage ESP becomes a full synth.

It will definitely be nice in the AWM environment in terms of realistic instruments.

It will definitively an edge in FM over Roland, but Roland have a more powerful subtractive engine with more subtractive engines overall and more polyphony.

Montage ESP I think will be better for layering splits over Zenology as I don't think it supports that.

That said I think Montage biggest advantage is the hardware itself for live performance.

There are more powerful VST environments in terms of synths and samplers. But with Montage hardware you can quickly recall patches, save them in Live Sets for total recall and create splits/layers on the fly.

I think Ableton Live comes pretty close but isn't as fast as a Montage for live performances. And Live is more geared for composing/studio production and working with a computer.

Montage ESP is more for when you don't feel the need to take your hardware on the road (for like a rehearsal accross town) as the hardware are bulky heavy devices but you will lose alot of the on the fly editing that the hardware excels in.
