DSP and Plugin Development • Re: DSP563xx Emulator (Access Virus, Nord Lead, Waldorf MW...)

They still have quite a few DSP563xx synths to do. Maybe after they've exhausted those, they'll turn their attention to emulating other DSP's. I imagine that the one they decide to do next will depend on how many synths used it and how much work it will be to do it. Did any other synths use the DSPB56371?
Sure - this project is so amazing and interesting - I hope after the DSP563xx family there will be a chance to see a DSPB56371 emulation too. Again, I'm incredibly fashinated about the low level working of all this. There's also several other DSPs and coprocessors emulations in general that are currently being completed inside the MAME project too. Maybe The Usual Suspects could take inspiration from there, too - for future projects.

The DSPB56371 was used in Blofeld and in (at least one) digital audio console prototype, together with the MCF51JM128 microcontroller. I don't think there were other devices using it, since the DSPB56371 coprocessor was released in a time when the "Microcontroller-DSP-RAM-ROM heterogeneous architecture" was completely adbandoned (from several years, effectively) in favor to the "SOCs" System-On-Chip architecture (as seen in recent hardware synthesizers) - which has a lot of advantages, like native "floating point processing" capabilities and the ability to reuse the same code on Native x86-64 DAW-based plugins without big modifications, thanks to the adoption of modern ISAs instead of obscure "hardware-specific" DSP instructions.
