Well, like I said, my Tonex suggestion was for pedal emulation. I assumed you’d use one of the amps you mentioned that live in the rehearsal room.Mmm nope - goalposts were set as rehearsals/gigs from my OP. But It was as a pretty open thread tbh I have veered off a little re modellers. I like stereo Peavey rig - stereo rigs are fantastic
Well, now you’re moving the goalposts by adding the “amp in the room” aspect, but that’s a different story. I can easily get that using room emulation and stereo IRs. I’m also studio bound. My first modeling rig that I built way back when, used two Peavey KB60s and I was satisfied with my live sound, and actually often got compliments from other guitarists who were confused by my weird setup.
But I wasn’t suggesting Tonex as an amp replacement. I was suggesting that you capture, or find captures of, your favorite pedals. The Tonex Max library is full of amazing captures of fuzz, OD, tube preamps, etc. Use it as your all-pedal so you can switch from a TS-9 to a Rat, to a Klon, etc. I personally love the sound of a pushed Fender, and I thought you mentioned that was one of the choices at your rehearsal space.
I do love a pushed Fender. What’s ur patch for that using your unit out of interest. I’m not familiar with RE / stereo IRs. Sounds like deep diving / tweaking involved tho I don’t have the patience simply.
Still turning any modeller/ sim/ capture up loud enough to compete with big drums .. I think all suffer sound degradation imo. That’s my crux.
Or ‘Crutch’.. haha
I use Amplitube and disable the cabinet emulation and choose “Custom IR.” You then get a dialogue box that lets you import IRs and/or choose one that you have already imported. I bought a bunch of Ownhammer IRs and there’s usually a stereo version of each cabinet. That’s it, really. Not a lot of tweaking. Nothing close to an AxeFX, which I really like, but it’s got a lot of exposed parameters.
I found that Amplitube could be pretty hit or miss, until I started using Ownhammer IRs on the “misses.” Makes a world of difference. That’s what I use the most, these days, though I will also mix it up and use Helix native or Guitar Rig 7, which has come a long way and is awesome for experimenting.
